Residents across Surrey Heath are deeply concerned by the announcement that the Frimley Fuel Allotments has been identified as the proposed site for the new Frimley Park Hospital.

Everyone recognises that Frimley Park Hospital needs to be rebuilt. Patients, staff and residents deserve a modern, safe and resilient hospital that is fit for future generations. However, the proposed relocation to the Frimley Fuel Allotments raises major questions about infrastructure, access, traffic, green space, cost and transparency.

The site is in the wrong place and has not been shown to have the transport, access and utility upgrades needed to make it deliverable. Local roads are already under serious pressure, nearby schools could face significant disruption, and residents deserve clear answers about how patients, staff and emergency vehicles would safely access the site.

There are also serious concerns about value for money. Essential infrastructure requirements should have been central to the site selection process from the beginning. They should not be treated as afterthoughts or left to be funded through contingency budgets.

The site selection process must now be opened up to proper scrutiny. If the case for the Frimley Fuel Allotments is strong, the Government and Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust should publish the evidence.

Dr Al Pinkerton MP is calling for:

  • The full site selection criteria to be published
  • The determinations reached for each site to be released
  • The site-specific costings for every option considered to be made public
  • Full transparency on the transport, access and utility upgrades required for the Frimley Fuel Allotments
  • Clear confirmation of whether those infrastructure works have been properly costed and budgeted for
  • The Health Secretary to visit the Frimley Fuel Allotments, meet residents and elected representatives, and explain how this proposal can be justified

Al will continue to fight this proposal, press for full transparency, and stand with residents to protect the Frimley Fuel Allotments.
