There are growing and serious concerns following the decision to identify Frimley Fuel Allotments as the preferred site for the new Frimley Park Hospital. While there is strong and unanimous support for rebuilding the hospital due to RAAC, many residents feel this decision has moved ahead without the level of transparency, scrutiny, or meaningful engagement that such a significant proposal demands.
This is one of the most consequential infrastructure decisions for our area in a generation, yet key questions remain unanswered. Concerns centre on the impact on already stretched transport networks, the true cost of delivering the scheme, the loss of valued green space, and the lack of clarity around how this site was ultimately chosen over alternatives. There is also frustration that consultation events are already oversubscribed, raising the risk that local voices, particularly those most affected, are not being properly heard.
Residents deserve confidence that decisions of this magnitude are being made on the basis of robust evidence, clear value for money, and proper environmental stewardship. At present, that confidence is being undermined by gaps in information and limited transparency.
Key requests:
- Expanded engagement so all residents, especially those most affected, have a genuine opportunity to be heard
- Full transparency on transport impacts, including realistic traffic modelling and the scale of required infrastructure upgrades
- Clear answers on who will fund necessary improvements to roads, public transport, and active travel routes
- Publication of the full costs of the preferred site and how these compare with alternative options
- Comprehensive environmental evidence, including biodiversity impacts and mitigation plans
- Release of all supporting technical information during consultation to allow proper public scrutiny
- Greater openness on the site selection process, including the criteria used, how they were weighted, and how sites were scored
