Letter to Health Secretary: Frimley Park Hospital Site Selection Process
Surrey Heath MP calls for a fair, transparent, and fully costed site selection process
Decisions about the future of Frimley Park Hospital will shape healthcare access for Surrey Heath for generations. That is why I have written to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to raise serious concerns about the way the site for the new hospital is being selected.
Local residents depend on Frimley Park Hospital, yet the current process risks overlooking fundamental issues including accessibility, environmental loss, and the capacity of local transport and services. Crucially, it has been confirmed that no full costing or budget has been allocated for the major infrastructure upgrades that a new site would require.
I am calling for:
- Commission a comprehensive assessment of the total capital costs required to deliver a new Frimley Park Hospital on the proposed site, including all associated transport and infrastructure works
- Publish a transparent breakdown of how, and at what cost, the hospital would connect to power, water, drainage, and transport networks
- Produce a full impact assessment setting out the additional strain the development would place on already overstretched local infrastructure
- Provide a clear statement of current budgeting assumptions, together with a firm commitment that all necessary infrastructure investment will be fully funded and not displaced onto local authorities or communities
- Revisit and re-evaluate previously discounted sites, testing all options again against infrastructure deliverability as a core and essential criterion
I support the delivery of a new Frimley Park Hospital, but it must be done in a way that protects local communities, preserves valued green space, and ensures the hospital is accessible and sustainable for patients, staff, and emergency services.
