Letter to the Home Secretary: ILR pathway for Ukrainians to the UK

Surrey Heath MP urges the Government to provide security and stability to Ukrainian Refugees

*Full letter below*

Nearly four years after Russia’s invasion, many Ukrainian families in the UK are still living with uncertainty because their immigration status remains temporary. Many have built lives here, working, contributing to our economy and integrating into local communities, yet they have no clear route to permanent settlement.

That uncertainty is having real consequences. Ukrainians report difficulties accessing jobs, mortgages, loans and lease renewals because they cannot evidence a pathway to permanent status. Families are also struggling to plan for their children’s education, unsure whether they may be required to leave the UK in the near future.

I have signed a joint letter to the Home Secretary urging the Government to establish a clear pathway to Indefinite Leave to Remain for Ukrainians in the UK. The current Ukraine scheme remains the only humanitarian route without a pathway to permanent settlement.

I am calling for:

  • A clear pathway to Indefinite Leave to Remain for Ukrainians currently in the UK
  • Greater stability and certainty for families who have built their lives here
  • Action to remove the practical barriers created by temporary status

Ukrainian families deserve security and clarity, not continued uncertainty.
