Letter to the Health Secretary: Frimley Park Site Selection Process

Dr Al Pinkerton MP has written to the new Health Secretary, Yvette Cooper, requesting an urgent meeting about the proposed relocation of Frimley Park Hospital to the Frimley Fuel Allotments.

Al fully supports rebuilding the hospital as a matter of urgency because of the widespread presence of RAAC. However, he remains deeply concerned about the transparency, scrutiny and local engagement surrounding the selection of the proposed site.

These concerns have intensified following a joint statement from 19 local schools and academy trusts opposing the relocation. They highlighted risks to pupil safety, inadequate infrastructure and the severe, long-term disruption that the hospital’s construction and operation could cause.

Questions also remain about congestion, transport access, environmental impacts and the proposal’s full cost. Discussions with health officials indicated that key transport and infrastructure works had not been fully costed or budgeted for and may need to be funded through the scheme’s contingency fund.

Despite repeated correspondence and parliamentary interventions, including a question to the Leader of the House on 12 March, Al has yet to receive substantive ministerial engagement.

Key requests:

• An urgent meeting with the Health Secretary
• Publication of the full financial modelling underpinning the preferred site
• A transparent review of the site-selection process
• Confirmation of the required infrastructure improvements and environmental safeguards
• Proper consultation with elected representatives, planning authorities, residents and local schools

Al has made clear that the new hospital must be safe, modern and properly planned, with the infrastructure, safeguards and public confidence needed to serve local communities for generations.
