Letter to the Transport Secretary: Road Conditions in Surrey Heath - Potholes

Surrey Heath MP presses Government and SCC on pothole funding and accountability

*Full Letter Below*

Road conditions in Surrey Heath are worsening, and residents are raising serious concerns about potholes, road safety and repeated short-lived repairs.

Following a large local response, Dr Al Pinkerton MP has now written to the Department for Transport to press for action at national level, alongside continued pressure on Surrey County Council locally.

The letter asks the Government to set out:

  • what more can be done to strengthen highways maintenance funding;
  • how councils are monitored against their statutory maintenance obligations;
  • how Surrey’s funding compares with similar authorities; and
  • what action is taken where repairs repeatedly fail and value for money is not being delivered.

Dr Pinkerton has also requested the opportunity to participate in a meeting between Government and Surrey County Council to examine SCC’s long-held claim that it is uniquely underfunded.
