Letter to Work and Pensions Secretary: WASPI Campaign
Surrey Heath MP urges Government action on state pension age injustice
Women born in the 1950s were denied clear and timely information about changes to the state pension age, leaving many unable to plan properly for their retirement. This failure has caused lasting financial hardship and distress.
That is why I have written, alongside MPs from across Parliament, to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions calling for fair compensation for those affected.
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has found clear maladministration in the way the Department for Work and Pensions communicated these changes. Following the Government’s recent out-of-court settlement with WASPI, there is now a clear opportunity to put this injustice right.
I am urging the Government to accept the Ombudsman’s findings, set out a fair compensation scheme for women born in the 1950s, and update Parliament on its plans without further delay.
